Red Easel aims to inspire, inform and engage the public through art through art exhibitions dedicated to enhancing the public's awareness of fine art while exploring a visual collaboration between lifestyle and culture.
Red Easel is designed to exhibit and provide art sales for emerging and established artists, educate the art curious, elevate the understanding of the culturally conscious, and raise community awareness of the importance of nation building through the arts.
Like voguish pop-up markets, where retailers open temporary “guerilla” stores in obscure locations from car dealerships to shipping containers Red Easel has no fixed home. It will hold shows at borrowed spaces across Jamaica and eventually the Caribbean.
As a bustling and growing capital, Jamaica is full of creative spirit, artistic talent and also has a booming construction industry. What’s urgently missing is a space for emerging artists to showcase their talent - and Pop Up Galleries are a creative and exciting solution.
The Red Easel Pop Up gallery is a nomadic gallery that exhibits in unexpected places for short periods of time. By closing and reopening in different vacant spaces around the city, Pop ups have the element of surprise and create a buzz in each neighborhood they hit.
How We Do This
Our exhibitions will take place once every three months- just enough time for us to scout for space, artists, sponsors, and plan and promote our events.
Our blog partners will inform readers of up-coming exhibitions, feature a " call-to-artists", and share and support news on Caribbean contemporary art and innovation, like other start-ups and community oriented projects.
Our active social media and awesome posters and flyers (we’re working with artists after all) will be available.
We’re growing a network of artists, partners, and supporters who are interested in participating in our exhibition and events. Take pART!
Our mission is to give more visibility to local talent by extending exhibition opportunities, and encouraging public participation through a week (or weekend) of special events. We believe that quality art and an involved public can foster social progress by inspiring new ways of seeing and understanding.
On a larger scale, we hope that Red Easel will make the public see the potential of these spaces and how important art is to making us see and reinterpret our environment in order to envision a better future.
